Monday 7th March 2016 (Bangkok / Phuket)

Soo, we are on day 5 in Thailand.. Currently laying on Patong beach, Phuket, in 38 degrees heat. What more could you ask for!!?

It’s crazy how much we have seen / visited since arriving in Thailand on Wednesday. We arrived in Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport at around 8pm local time, then got our transfer to our hotel, feeling very blessed to have survived 24 hours of travelling! We were also blessed that we had a clean room, with a comfortable bed and a half decent bathroom! Think it’s fair to say that we both slept like a log that night!

Thursday 3rd March – we got a taxi from the hotel to Khao San Road, famously known for its large community of backpackers and extremely loud vibes and busy atmosphere. Our hotel was pretty cool for £26… we had a double bed, wifi access and the most beautiful roof top pool! We eat ‘Chicken Pad Thai’, drank cocktails / Chang and then chilled at the pool. (We were defo the whitest!!)

In the evening, we ventured out to one of the bars. It was awsome! Harry loved the Chang beer, which was only 50 baht (£1). At the bar, we met some Thai ladies who were very friendly… they kept toasting their glasses to us! Then one of them told Harry that he was a ‘very lucky man to have me’ (ha, too right he is!!!)

Friday 4th March – after a well needed layin, we decided to go on a mission to find some temples, so we brought a map and set off – it’s a good job that Harry can read a map! .. We took photos of the Grand Palace, where the King lives and then visited the ‘Wat Pho’ with the reclining Buddha.

Saturday 5th March – we had a 6am start for Bangkok floating markets. This was the most amazing experience… It’s so crazy to see how the Thai’s can live on floating villages so perfectly with virtually no money and nothing… We both felt quite humble by it and fortunate for having comfortable living as well as proper roofs over our heads.. One of the highlights of the floating market was definitely the coconut ice cream! O M G, this is just the best stuff ever! I love how it is served in a real coconut (yes little things for little minds!!) Oh and I must also add that one of my biggest achievements in Thailand has been my ability to wee in a hole in the ground called a ‘Thai loo’..

In the evening we caught a 12 hour sleeper bus West from Bangkok to Phuket. When you say 12 hours on a bus… Yes 12 whole hours… It sounds like the most disgusting thing! Actually, it wasn’t that bad after all… We were fortunate to be upgraded to VIP seats, which gave us aircon and lots of leg room! Although… having said that if you ask Harry, I am sure he would say the opposite, as whilst I slept the majority of the journey, he only managed 2 hours sleep!

Sunday 6th March ‘Mothers Day’ – well it goes without saying that I did not stop thinking about my beautiful Mumma & how I would have loved to celebrate her special day with her! Luckily we had wifi so was able to message! It was great to Skype Jonathan and Lynn (Harry’s parents) and to see that they are not missing us ahah! We were very grateful to the kind Thai family who allowed us to share a taxi transfer from Phuket town to Patong for no cost… Considering the amount of taxis that are certain to rip you off here! We checked into our hotel for an absolute fabulous cost of £11 for a room with aircon, wifi and a QUEENS BED! Thai prices are a dream!!! Along with their coconut ice cream, coconut water & Pad Thai Chicken!! (Heaven!)
We spent the day snorkelling in the crystal clear waters of Patong, as well as sunbathing or shall I say burning?! Yes we are extremely burnt #britsabroad! In the evening, we eat at a Thai restaurant that overlooked the beach.. Was soo idyllic! I did my good deed by purchasing a handmade flower garland from a young Thai boy, he must have only been 7 or 8 years old?! He was very sweet & I know the children are probably sent to look very poor so that people will buy their items / donate money, but I just felt so taken back by his confidence in approaching a whole range of people at night time..(that’s the trouble when you have younger siblings, you get emotional!).. The young boy put the necklace round my neck and gave me a kiss on the cheek!! Haha, how can you not buy!?

So yes that brings us to today… Which has been a day of constant relaxation by the beautiful beach. We both decided to stay in the shade today, as we are extremely burnt!! We have booked another nights accommodation, but am not sure what tomorrow will bring! Hopefully lots more fun and adventures!!
